RESULTS – SHENFIELD, ESSEX, 12th OCTOBER 2014

Posted by James Evans On October 13th, 2014

The first two rounds (the T38 and T120 events) saw the casters competing in still, very dense air.  Over lunch a slight breeze picked up which prompted a change in the casting lane direction.  Unfortunately as soon as casting re-started the wind swung almost through 180 degrees leaving casters coping with, at best, a head wind but in some cases a head wind blowing in to their right shoulder.  This obviously seriously effected the distances recorded for the #5, #7 and ST27g events.

All distances are in feet and inches:

The casting conditions were again not favourable for big distances, very high humidity and pressure combined with the absence of any consistent wind, despite a 10mph easterly being forecast, made things tough.  The T38, T120 and 55g overhead salmon outfits were cast in the morning followed by the #5F, #7F and sea trout distance 27g outfits in the afternoon.

RESULTS – CULLOMPTON, DEVON 6th APRIL 2014

Posted by James Evans On April 9th, 2014

The weather forecast for the day was pretty grim, however it didn’t turn out as bad as it could have.  Although the air was ‘heavy’ there was a reasonable wind to start the day when the competition kicked off with the T120 and T38.  This wind did cause some problems with casters having to cope with the line being blown into their casting shoulder at times.  After a short, heavy downpour distances took a nose-dive, this was particularly evident for the #5 weight event.

Distances are in feet and inches

#5F – Steve Parkes 113.11; James Evans 112.10; Mike Heritage 112.02; Trevor Hayman 107.11; Rob Doyle 100.06 ; Alan Bath 97.07; John Graham 94.02; David Fisher 91.06; John Dawson 90.08; Tracy Thomas 82.05; Wendy Bath 78.10

Conditions were seemingly good for distance casting with a decent wind blowing for most of the day.  Unfortunately there was also an unpredictable cross wind on the casting field which skewed some backcasts and dumped some good forward casts.
