The BFCC’s first trip to Jersey was greeted with fine, warm weather with a reasonable breeze.  All the distance events were cast in the morning and then the accuracy was cast, over water, at a different venue in the afternoon.  The results from the competitions are as follows, all distances are in feet and inches.

On arrival at the sports field in Alconbury we were greeted, for once, by a steady westerly breeze. This lasted just long enough for us to set out the casting lanes, at which point it dropped to nothing. For the rest of the day it varied between no wind and a nice ~5mph breeze, although at times this was blowing into the rod hand of the right handers.

The weather for the Oswestry event was a very warm 29°C with a very inconsistent breeze. This breeze swung through 90 degrees during the course of the morning prompting a casting lane re-alignment. The inconsistent nature of the wind meant that some casters had favourable conditions, some had still air and the very unlucky ones had it blowing into their casting arm. This event saw the formal introduction of the 55g Salmon overhead distance to the list of the competition events. This was cast in the morning, alongside the T38 and T120 events. Two 55g outfits, kindly supplied by Steve Parkes and Brian Szukala, were cast by everyone – the highest result is posted here.

The day itself was sunny and warm with a patchy breeze. Unfortunately this swung round during the morning events leaving some of the right handers dealing with an on-the-shoulder wind. The lanes were re-orientated for the #5, #7 and ST27 that were cast in the afternoon.

There were only a few casters who braved the conditions to enter the competition events at Oswestry, the ones that did were faced with intermittent rain showers, high pressure and humidity and no wind to speak of.  There were a few good casts to win some of the events however.  As usual the T38 and T120 outfits were cast first and the #5, #7, ST27 and accuracy events were completed after the lunch break.
