BFCC Casting Meetings

  • Fees: BFCC Members and Juniors free; day entrants £15 for tuition and competition/badge entry or £5 for competition entry only.
  • Tuition: please bring along an outfit, or two, that you are comfortable casting so that the instructor can view your technique, although BFCC casting outfits can be provided if preferable.
  • Agenda – am: We start the Meeting with a safety briefing around 10am, followed by the accuracy competition for everyone to enter if they wish. Tuition sessions continue during the rest of the morning whilst the T120, T38 and S55g competition events are run.
  • Agenda – pm: After lunch, more tuition sessions plus the 5#, 7# and ST27 competition events are run. For the 5# and 7# competition, there is a category (B100) for new people to enter separate to the more experienced competitors. We normally finish around 4pm.
  • BFCC Championship: Only competition results from BFCC Meetings contribute to the BFCC Championship; winner announced at the final Meeting of the year. The winner is awarded the BFCC Championship Trophy.

NOVEMBER 17th 2024 (SUNDAY) – Dodleston Sports Field, near Chester, Cheshire CH4 9NH FACEBOOK

  • NOTE: This meeting has been scheduled due to the cancellation of the earlier Dodleston meeting but will be a modified version of a BFCC Meeting.
  • Refreshments: BFCC will provide refreshments (tea/coffee) but bring your own lunch.
  • Agenda: For this meeting, there will only be a competition covering all 7 events with the usual competition casting coaching. There will not be the general fly casting instruction as we will not have any of the usual instructors with us.
  • Directions: 4 Church Road, Dodleston, Chester, Cheshire CH4 9NH. Postcode in a Satnav may not take you to the exact location. Co-ords to entrance off Church Road – N53-08-56; W2-57-2. From North, take A483 off the A55, then immediately right turn onto Rough Hill. From South take A483 towards Chester, then before the roundabout with the A55, turn left onto Rough Hill. At the next roundabout, take 2nd exit onto Lache Lane. Turn Left onto Church Road. Go past Chester Lakes on left hand side. On left, sign for Dodleston Sports Field on a track going to the car park. If you find yourself going past the ‘Dodleston town’ signs, then turn around as you have missed the entrance to the Sports Field.

TBD – Willesborough Cricket Club, Hythe Road, Ashford, Kent

  • Refreshments: The Cricket Club will provide refreshments for a fee but bring your own lunch.
  • Directions: Leave M20 at J10, take A292 (Hythe Rd) towards Ashford. After passing Waterside (a road) on left, travel straight on 300yds to a narrow entrance on left with a small sign Willesborough CC – easy to miss. If you reach Albemarle Rd (100yds on left) go back. For Satnav users, enter postcode TN24 0NE followed by number 328, or use co-ordinates 51-08-35N; 0-53-47E.

TBD – Stothert and Pitt Rugby Ground, Bristol Road (A4), Corston, Bath, Somerset, BA2 9DJ

  • Directions: Co-ords to entrance – N 51-23-27; W 2-26-18. From the West, take Junction 19 off M4, exit onto M32 towards Ring Rd/A4174/Bristol. Take the A4174 towards Bath, go over several roundabouts continuing on the A4174 and eventually turn left onto the A4. Continue on the A4, Stothert & Pitt RFC will be on the left. From the East, take Junction 18 off M4, A46 exit to Bath/Stroud. Continue on A46, then right onto Gorse Ln, right onto A420, take Freezinghill Ln and Lansdown Ln to Bristol Rd/A4. At the roundabout, take third exit and stay on A4 for 0.5 mile, Stothert & Pitt RFC will be on the right.

TBD – Ashford in the Water Cricket Club, near Bakewell, Derbyshire DE45 1PZ

  • Refreshments: BFCC will provide refreshments but bring your own lunch.
  • Directions: Parking for the Meeting is on a turning just off the A6020 in Ashford in the water. Co-ordinates to turning off A6020 for parking area: N53-13-25; W1-42-19. Parking is good either on the pitch or the asphalt road next to the pitch. See map below, circle indicates parking on pitch, dashed line indicates parking on asphalt (there is a 5-bar gate which is unlocked and is ok to open if needed).

TBD – Jersey, Channel Islands (Le Quennevais sports pitch and pavillion, near the airport)

  • Refreshments: Probably provided from the nearby pavilion.
  • Directions: From the B36, turn onto Don Farm Road, Sports Club Parking on the right. Specific field will be notified nearer the time.

TBD – Bentley Cricket Club, Brentwood, Essex CM14 5PN

  • Refreshments: Tea/Coffee and other refreshments available for a fee from the Cricket Club (cash only).
  • Directions: Leave M25 at J28, take A1023 to Brentwood town centre. At end of High St, turn left onto A128 Ongar Rd, travel for 2 miles and at a pair of mini roundabouts, turn left into Coxtie Green Rd. The entrance is on the left at the end of the cricket field.

2025 BFCC Support to Shows:

  • Welsh Game Fair TBD for 2025
  • JULY 4-6: Scottish Game Fair in Scone Palace Parklands, Perthshire
  • JULY 25-27: Game Fair in Ragley Hall, Warwickshire
    • BFCC will be running fly casting competitions: Trout accuracy on grass; Trout distance and Salmon overhead distance over water. There will be daily comps for everyone to have a go, plus we will be running the Overall GF Championship. Qualifications will run over the weekend with prizes for the male, female and junior winners. The winner and one runner-up from each class from the Scottish GF will be invited to compete at the Grand Final at the Ragley GF.
    • Please note that the BFCC do not provide instruction at the GFs.
    • If you are interested in joining us at any of the GFs to help run the casting competitions, then please let us know. You will get free entry for the days you support; half each day supporting the BFCC and the rest to enjoy the Fair.
